October Happenings

The month started off with Katie losing her first tooth.  She wrote a letter to the tooth fairy.  She basically wanted the money and the tooth and she was teling the tooth fairy where the tooth was.  She was so excited!

Ginny was able to make some letters with pretzels in our class.
One of the big happenings of the month was Eli breaking his arm.  He was swinging in the swing behind grandma and papa's and fell out.  He caught himself with his left hand and broke the bone.  We took him to the children's ER and we were in there till very late in the night.  The xrayed him and set his bone.  They had to do a "conscious sedation" to set his bone which meant they put him to sleep but not a very deep sleep.  He did very good with getting an IV put in his arm.  They gave him some morphine and we got a few good laughs.  He was really bummed out because he was supposed to pitch that night in his baseball game.  Unfortunately, he couldn't play the rest of the season, but he did go and support his team and was even able to be the 1st base coach for several games.

He broke his arm on Monday and then on Thursday, he went to the doctor for his 1st cast.
They took off the red "soft" cast, which was basically a splint to make sure it could swell if it needed to, and put on his hard camouflage cast.
Again, we had a half day of school and I took the kids to the zoo.  They enjoyed the gorillas and looking at all of the Halloween decorations around the zoo.  Eli was bummed that he couldn't climb, but still had a good time.  Logan went with us.

Logan was the only one that was brave enough to let the birds climb all over her--besides me. : )
Our school participated in the Boosterthon Fun Run as our fundraiser.  Eli and Katie both ran 30 laps and helped raise money for technology at the school.  It was lots of fun!

Laura Lynn tried on a new hat--panties.  It was really funny and she laughed at herself a lot.
Two weeks after the camouflage cast, we went back for another cast.  This time Eli chose garnet and black for the Gamecocks.  This was more painful for him because they had to mold it to his arm and the guy doing it was pretty rough.  He wanted to make sure the bone wasn't going anywhere.
Katie went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch.  I went with her and then a week later took my preschoolers to the same patch.

Eli received several belt loops in Cub Scouts.
We had many nights of eating hot dogs and s'mores in the nice fall air.
And of course, we celebrated Halloween.  We had pirates, a hippie, and a Star Wars character--Janga Fett.
Katie created "Pinkalicious" for her book character pumpkin.
Laura Lynn was "Dorothy" at preschool for her trick-or-treating.
"Aaargh!"  What a great month!
