This past weekend we were able to go to Murrell's Inlet from Friday until Monday night. We stayed at Jamie's cousin, Laura's, house. She had invited all of the cousins and their families to come and stay. We had a blast!!! We got there Friday afternoon and visited a little before heading to the beach. Jamie's cousin, Janet, and her two children, Linda Ann and Robert joined us. Linda Ann and Robert were so great with the kids. They played in the water with them for a long time. The weather was perfect--a great breeze! Janet and I enjoyed talking and watching them all. Jamie was in the water with the kids too. He loves the ocean and I think he enjoyed being out there floating in the waves and playing with the kids.
Someone had dug a HUGE hole next to where we were sitting. Katie and Laura Lynn enjoyed playing in it.
Laura's house is beautiful! She has done a lot of work on it in the last 2 years. It has a pond in front with a little island. The kids' favorite part of the house was the tree house in back.
There is a lot of wildlife around Laura's house. As we were leaving the house, we saw this little fellow going across the drive way. It is an alligator turtle.
We were able to stay in the house for our visit. This view is part of the downstairs.

When we got back to the house after the beach, it was almost time for supper. By supper, there were 23 of us there. By the end of the night we had 29 total. Some of us were able to stay at the house, but others were able to stay at a hotel within walking distance to Laura's house. We had a great supper of fried chicken, salad, and lots of vegetables.
After supper, we played lots of games. The favorite game was Scattegories. We divided into teams and had so much fun coming up with fun words for each category. There was a lot of laughing and lots of silliness. We stayed up until at least 1:30 before settling down.
Saturday morning we woke up and had a late breakfast of grits, sausage/egg casserole, toast, tomatoes, fruit, zucchini bread, pumpkin bread and eggs. We then continued to talk and laugh and play. Some went shopping and some stayed and played and go things ready for the next big meal.
Later in the day, Jamie and I rode with Laura and Bob to Georgetown to pick up the shrimp and go to the grocery store for supper. We got back and made a Beaufort Boil--shrimp, potatoes, sausage, and corn. We also had tomatoes, banana pudding, blueberry pie, and blackberry cobbler. Again, we played games and talked and laughed for hours.
That night I started preparing cinnamon rolls for breakfast. We again went to bed late--1 am and then got up the next morning about 8am. I got up and started working on the cinnamon rolls. I rolled them out on the back screen porch and had a small group to watch. We laughed about it being a cooking show. I made 50 cinnamon rolls for breakfast. We ate those as well as grits, bacon, tomatoes, eggs, and fruit. Some had to leave after breakfast. The rest of us just hung out and continued to play games and visit with one another.
We had an earlier supper because a few more were having to leave. We had ham, green beans, homemade ice cream, carrot cake (for Olivia's birthday), tomatoes, potatoes, and vegetables like squash and stewed tomatoes. It was very yummy!
Jamie had a recipe for homemade ice cream that was made from a custard. We brought a churn so that they could actually turn the handle instead of the motor running it. Everyone was able to take a turn.
We celebrated Olivia's birthday while everyone was there. She turns 12 on the 22nd.
Sunday evening we let the kids go swimming at the hotel for a bit and then came back to play more games. Janet, Laura, Nana, and Aunt Ann got tickled at the rest of us because we came back and started sneaking food. Janet could see us through the glass door and was giving them all a play by play of our sneaking. The others were laughing so hard at us.
We ate a lot over the weekend! We ate tomatoes at every meal because we all brought tomatoes from our gardens. We made salsa too. So, there was lots to snack on.
We went to bed late and then woke up again Monday morning and had a late breakfast of grits, sausage, bacon, fruit, tomatoes, toast, and fruit. We went on a walk to the hotel and just sat and talked.
Nana, Mimi, Olivia, and India left about 2 and we started loading the van. We got it loaded and then all went outside to wait on Steve, Deana, and Jake to get there. While waiting we watched the alligator in the pond across the street. It was at least 6 feet long. Everytime we went out we watched to see where it was. One time it even jumped in the water and went after a bird.
Laura Lynn had everyone wrapped around her finger for the weekend. They were all her BFFs. She had them fix her plates and play with her.

We finally ate one last meal at the house after Steve's family arrived. We ate salad, ham, peas, leftover shrimp, chips, dip, tomatoes, and fruit. We then had our final dessert--more carrot cake.
We hated to leave, but knew we had to come home. We left about 7pm. Laura Lynn cried and cried as we drove off. I asked her why she was crying and she said, "I don't want to leave!"
It was a wonderful weekend! I ate way too much, but enjoyed visiting with family so much! I am so blessed to be a part of such a great family! We can't wait to do it again!
