This was Mother's Day 2 years ago. He's so sweet!
Eli has such a sweet little spirit. He can always make me laugh and/or smile. Sometimes I wonder if what I'm teaching him is sinking in. Well this week, I had proof that he is learning the things I'm teaching him about the gospel.
Gospel Principle Taught: Prayer
How do I know he is learning it?
This past week I was next door at my parents and thought I would give the kids a quick bath while I was experimenting with their VCR. So, I asked Eli to run next door and bring me the kiddie shampoo. He ran next door and brought me what he considered the right thing. (It was an empty bottle of baby shampoo). I asked him to go back and go in my bathroom and bring me the right bottle. He said he didn't want to because he was scared. (It was about 7:30 and getting dark) I told him to go and hurry back. Well, a few moments later, Mama--who was sitting on the couch--called me in there. She said that she had heard the door open, but not close and that she heard some talking. She leaned back so that she could see the door and she saw Eli kneeling down with his hands together praying. He finished, jumped up, and ran out the door. When he came back in and handed me the correct shampoo, I asked him what he was praying for. He said he prayed to Heavenly Father so that he wouldn't be afraid of the dark to run home by himself. I was so impressed that he thought to pray about something on his own.
Another prayer experience:
This morning as we were getting ready for church, I was fixing Katie's hair and asked Eli to try and button his own shirt the best he could. He got the first button done and was struggling with the next button. I looked over at him and he was kneeling by the recliner and saying a prayer. When he was finished I asked him what he was praying for and he told me he was asking Heavenly Father to help him get his buttons fastened. I told him that if he had faith, Heavenly Father would help him with anything that was good.
Now to turn the tables and end on a funny note. I always tell Eli to hurry and buckle so we can drive off. He'll ask why and I'll tell him that we could get arrested if he's not buckled up. Well, on Friday he informed me when I reminded him that we might go to jail if he didn't get the seat belt fastened, that he didn't think jail would be that bad. I asked him why he thought that. He said, "Well, you get bread and water and you get to make one phone call."
Thanks Hong Kong Fuey (sp?) for teaching him about jail.
