Valentine's Day

We had a really nice Valentine's at the Benson home. I made a bucket for each of the kids to carry their valentine's to school. That afternoon, they got to eat their heart with chocolates in it and their gummy "peep type" candy. Eli had baseball practice that afternoon, so Jamie picked him up from practice.
The girls and I had gone to the grocery store earlier that day to get all of the things for supper. We even picked out some beautiful tulips for the table.
When Eli and Jamie walked into the door, they were greeted with a candlelit dinner for our family. I had pulled out our real china and silver and some nice fancy glasses. We had chicken cordon bleu, rolls, green beans, orange slices for garnish, and red kool-aid. For dessert, I had made brownies shaped like hearts. I served them with vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup and put a chocolate covered strawberry on the side. It turned out to be a very yummy, fun dinner for us to enjoy. I think it will now be a tradition for every Valentine's. It was funny to hear the kid's reactions to the "fanciness" of the meal. One of them asked what the oranges were on our plates for. I was able to then educate them in what a garnish is. They wanted to eat on the fancy plates again the next night, but they were already put away by then. Until next year!
